My Life As A Twinkie (pt. 1)

Twinkie (slur): a pejorative term describing Asian Americans (along with others) who have become completely (or almost completely) integrated into mainstream American culture, thus losing their traditional Asian values.

As a child of Chinese immigrants, it was oftentimes difficult to explain the experience of growing up in a culture that differed so greatly from what my parents created for us at home. the concept of having an Identity became ambiguous the more i was immersed in the american culture. creating this comic allowed me to express my frustrations but also reflect on what being chinese really means to me. this is the first part of a series of comics i will be creating addressing the every day experiences of a first generation chinese american.
